How recommendations work

We believe a recommendation you can't understand isn't worth trusting. Here's exactly how LastMatch — our fit model — works, and where you should use your own judgment.

How the boots are measured

Every outline here is measured by hand, boot by boot. The sole view is traced directly from each boot's soleplate outline, so what you see is the real shape of the plate rather than a stock illustration.

Sizing is measured against a true, exact-length foot. I use a foot that is precisely one size, for example a real size 11 to the dot, never a 10.75 or a 10.85. Each boot is then fitted so the toes sit very close to the front, with some boots leaving less than a millimeter of room. That closeness is what the sizing notes are based on.

Why measure it this way? A lot of players wear the wrong size and assume their foot is a size it isn't. The goal here is to be as close to the truth as possible, so fit is judged by how closely a boot actually matches your foot, not by the number printed on the box.

What the score means

Your match score (0–100) is a weighted blend of six fit dimensions. It estimates how likely a boot is to suit your foot profile. It is not a quality rating of the boot, and it is not a guarantee. Fit is personal.

How the dimensions are weighted

  • Forefoot width22%
  • Toe shape18%
  • Toe-box room18%
  • Midfoot wrap16%
  • Heel lockdown14%
  • Arch / sole12%

Measured vs. modeled vs. editorial

Known

Facts we hold directly, like a boot's stated surfaces, material, and your own profile inputs.

Modeled

Outputs LastMatch computes by comparing your profile to a boot's shape. Most fit scores are modeled.

Estimated / editorial

Judgment calls like arch compatibility, where real-world fit varies most. Treat these cautiously.

Independence

Recommendations are generated only from your foot profile and our boot data. Affiliate links, ads, and sponsorships have no influence on scoring or ranking. If a boot isn't right for you, we say so.
