Football boots for a high instep or high-volume midfoot
Boots with a looser or moderate midfoot wrap, or a stretchy upper that gives across the instep. A high instep is squeezed by locked-down, shape-holding uppers.
A high instep is the fit problem people are most likely to misdiagnose, because the symptom — pressure across the top of the foot, numbness, having to lace loosely — feels like the boot is too small. It usually is not. The length is fine and the width is fine; the boot simply has less height through the midfoot than the foot needs. What helps is a wrap that opens up and an upper with some give, not another half size.

What to check before you buy
- Check how the boot laces. A conventional throat with a separate tongue can be opened up; a laceless or one-piece upper cannot.
- Upper stretch matters more here than anywhere else — a high instep is relieved by give, not by length.
- If pressure sits right on top of the toes rather than the midfoot, that is toe-box height, which is a different fix.
